What were the choices for the vote? They must not have had very many to come up with such a terrible class. I mean, look at all the new and better classes on the hexed boards. Seems Pirates = Gypsys without spells.

There was alot of good choices on the Vote, including Psionist and Summoner. Unfortuntely it looks as if the MudCentral Forum Userbase is a bunch of idiots, and ass-kissers who are just worried about upgrades there characters need. Pirate were a half-assed idea, done by a group of half-assed programmers. I can't belive they actually have to run this game like a Company, with a staff, and a group of people... When in all actuality, If a single person had the time, and money could do anything they can do, But Better.

I really doubt EVERYONE who plays MajorMUD, reads those dumb forums. I sure haven't until now.

The problem here is that the mmb group is very jaded tword new classes since most boards have several new classes of there own. If anything i think the classes that are the major problem are the ones that everyone plays (ie warrior pally ranger mystic druid) if you look at turbosentry's demographics of the most played classes those 5 make up for something like 75% or more of the entire population. If anything i think those classes should be choped down a bit to make other choices like the gypsy more attractive. If pally was say chain with sharp only, or if perhaps we took away the druids leather and made them more of a pure caster, then mabey a gypsy or missonary wouldnt be such a bad choice. Mabey then pirate would be warmly welcomed into a legit community that hasnt seem much new in the class/race catagorty since nekojins. I may not have tons of mud or legit time but i know i can make level 10 with a warrior in a day, and cant even hit level 2 with a gypsy in 2 hours. The only reason gypsys and thiefs suck is beacause theres no fear for pallys and warriors, if you made plate classes touchable or got rid of a few i know i would take the time to play a gypsy, or even a Pirate YARRR! :yeah:

The best people to ask about what new classes can be added to the game are hex players. All every legit player does is think hex is some fairy land where everythings really easy and super overpowered...they're wrong. Think a lot of ideas have gone through metro as far as classes? Not shit compared to what's BEEN PLAYED by hexed players. They ask a bunch of legit players who really don't have a clue how dumb of an idea they have, and Pirate's are born.

Metro probably picked Pirates because they saw that nobody over here has them in their game. They don't want to put something in the game that we suggested years ago, that would make them look silly.

Theres two types of players that play mud. For the most part, we are separated by legit and hex. This delves deeper, though, into the playing style of the player. Plat is a player that plays to kick ass. He wants a good tough character to go kill the hardest monsters and get the best shit. Theres a lot of this player type around here, since we are hex, we can modify the game and turn it to our liking.

I'm a player that plays the game to play the game. I enjoy having a shitty ass character. I enjoy having shitty equipment. I enjoy chillin in Rhudaur on a 10x board until level 30. I enjoy wandering aimlessly in new areas, knowing that I don't know where I'm going or how to get there. I have no problem dieing in a room with fifteen monsters, realizing theres no way I'm getting my shit right now, getting a scimitar and some leather armor and scripting a lower area for three weeks until I'm big enough to get my shit.

Plat asked "why would you pick a pirate over a bard?" Well... because Pirates are cool. That's a good enough reason for me. That's probably good enough reason for everyone else, especially those who like to play the underdog and make a thief, gypsy, warlock, whatever. No, thieves are not the best class in the game, but who gives a fuck? If you're happy with your char and you are willing to put in the extra effort, who is to say you're a dumbass?

This is the problem we run into with developing new classes. Do we want new classes that will offer a roleplaying sense to the game? Do we want new classes that will offer more diverse gameply? Do we want new classes that are bad ass but harder to work with? It all depends on the person. You can't please everyone.

I don't personally see a problem with the Pirate class. Well, other than it's fucking retarded, but thats not the point. I'd play one. If 10% of the people that play this game are happy with the Pirate class, I'm betting 90% won't quit. They'll still be there, waiting for their time to shine and get what they want. It will happen, just let them get all the shit out of the way that they haven't had time to do in a while. Metro's a little slow, remember that.

Right you are, right you are. Oh wait, you're being a fucking idiot and just ranting bullshit.

Pirate were a half-assed idea, done by a group of half-assed programmers.

As someone involved with helping formulate the proposed Pirate class, I can vouch that no programming was involved. There were however, many design decisions being contemplated.

Yeah, I don't think it's disputable that Metro follows the molasses release schedule.

I really doubt EVERYONE who plays MajorMUD, reads those dumb forums. I sure haven't until now.

Shrug, people who don't involve themselves with the goings on of the game are the ones loosing out, not the other way around.

Of course ideally MajorMUD would have forums built in that were networked, so any BBS with a copy of MajorMUD would be able to interact with and contribute to ideas such as these, but that's just not realistic it seems.

Thanks for providing a nice long reason for why I don't usually try to justify stuff to the people who frequent these forums.

Just wanna give you a big'ole Fuck You. The "people who frequent these forums" have more MajorMUD/WG knowledge than all members of the metro forums combined. Don't generalize an entire forum because of one morons bullshit, nobody likes Miles anyway.

Yeah, I'm sure you've never thrown in a suggestion about Druid's. People on those forums are worried about one things, themselves.

Exactly, the easy way out. I could "contemplate" and design a class like that within a matter of minutes. No coding involved? Good Work.

Aren't you contradicting yourself here?

People like YOU are the reason I don't read MudCentral's forums or choose to participate in the boringness known as legit mud.

I may not like what Locke has to say sometimes either, and in this case I think he's defending Metro for all the wrong reasons, but he's usually had nothing but sweet, in-your-face, you're-full-of-shit reason to give to the forums. Which is to say, he's an asshole most of the time but right often enough to halfway justify it, and for every idea about druids he's thrown out there he's had 10 for the rest of the game.

Exactly, the easy way out. I could "contemplate" and design a class like that within a matter of minutes. No coding involved? Good Work.

Agreed. Pirates are a lame idea for a class that's been batted around since people started talking about Wardancers, long before WCC even sold the rights to the game. After all this time, Locke, you're actually gonna claim that putting pirates into the game involved any significant thought? Aside from balancing out a few items, most of which won't be balanced properly anyway when Metro releases their first half-assed patch with new classes. New bardic class, ok, great, but cmon now. Singing pirates in a game with like 1 body of water larger than a river? It's lame, silly, and could have been thrown together by a monkey with a typewriter in significantly less time than it would take that monkey to write Hamlet. Ok, that had nothing to do with anything, but it still can't have taken more than a day of hashing shit out to design this exquisitely creative and interesting class.

Hmm. Speaking of running BBSes, what's up with MudRevolution? Seems like it's been up for about 45 minutes in the past week or so.

Where did I say that there was an abundance of work involved with creating Pirates? I didn't, you can't quote me on that, because I never uttered it. Pirates were easy to implement, but here's the problem people bitching about them have--

THEY CAN'T SEE THE FOREST FOR ALL THOSE PESKY FUCKING TREES

Hi, new classes are being added to legit MMUD for the first time in eons. MORE THAN ONE CLASS IS BEING ADDED. More than likely we'll see, at a minimum, a HALF DOZEN (that's 6 for you mathematically challenged individuals) NEW CLASSES. Pirates are but ONE aspect of the overall additions. You people seem to be ignoring all the other GOOD additions being considered.

Who cares if Pirates are "similar" to existing classes. They're also very different in a few ways too, and yet for all these differences, all the people bitching in this thread can come up with is "oh it's lame". Well fuckhead, how is it lame, beyond your inability to engage in any level of fucking fantasy to actually make yourself worth fucking listening to.

Think people. Fucking try to think.

Miles, you're such a fucking pre-n00b it's fucking ridiculous. I've offered up way more in the way of suggestions for MMUD for stuff other than Druids than you'll ever come up with in your whole fucking pitiful life.

Exactly, the easy way out. I could "contemplate" and design a class like that within a matter of minutes. No coding involved? Good Work.

Easy way out? What was easy about it? You were not engaged in the internal discussions that lead to that class proposal. You were not privy to the give and take that took place that brought us ultimately to the proposal that was made. In other words-- you don't know what the fuck you're talking about, but you talk a good game.

Aren't you contradicting yourself here?

No, I'm not. You have a voice, your voice is in the minority and now you're bitching as loud as possible. Congratulations. You're still in the minority.
