LoL..you people say MTV is dying, that's hilarious.

MTV isn't dying, MTV stays with the times. Rap is the most listened and talked about form of music nowadays. Argue all you want.

MTV used to be basically just rock. Want to know why? Because Rock was, at the time, the most popular form of music. Everyone listened to and loved rock because it was fresh..it was different.

Now, Rap is what's fresh. Rap and R&B is what gets MTV their money, it's still just as popular as it was, if not even more popular. I'm not saying Rap and R&B make MTV everything, obviously some people still listen to Rock, some people listen to boy bands, etc..but don't say MTV fell off because they don't play 90% rock like they used to, just because YOU listen to it. They play what the people want to hear, and if playing Rap makes the people happy, then they play rap..they could have stayed playing mainly rock, and they wouldn't be half as popular as they are.

I know Rock is still popular, I'm not in any way shape or form saying it isn't. Rap is just more popular at this day in age.

Rap is very much more listened to than rock. You've got 99% of the black population listening to rap, 80% of the asian population listening to rap, and 40% of the white population listening to rap. Of course, those numbers were pulled outta my ass, but they are pretty much on target. Plat is absolutely right, MTV plays what the country wants to hear. It's supply and demand. People demand rap, MTV supplies it. Everyone also preaches that MTV should play more music, because it is Music TeleVision. Well, MTV would probably be shut down if it played purely music. There's not enough music to be played. You think they play out artists now, just see what happens if they do that. It would also be shut down because it wouldn't have those prime time slots filled with episodes of real world or whatever they have going now. Those shows are extremely popular, believe it or not. I don't remember why I started this rant, but I'm done.

the problem with MTV isnt that its staying with the times, everyone has to to survive, the problem is that it has hours upon hours of useless shit such as the real world and road rules.. now how is THAT "Music Television"?

It's not music television..but obviously it's worth playing. MTV probably has 50 different show ideas sitting around waiting. They play shows that gets people watching..granted, being "Music TV" they should play more music, but Speed has a very good point. Also, the shows that they play like Real World, Road Rules, etc..those shows are extremely popular..like I said, they probably have about 50 show ideas sitting there waiting for one of their shows to fall off..if people like a show that's played, they play that show.

It's not music television any more. I can't remember a time when it was (I'm only 20 tho). They are in it for the money, as everyone else is. If you ran MTV, you sure as hell wouldn't play music 24/7. The pure music shows get the least ratings out of all of their shows. They just put them on there so that it can be Sorta-Music-Television.
