It's much better on a basic mud client such as gMud. Most players running Windows use zMud, and if you are in a *nix, people use TinTin (I think it's called). Basic telnet blows and will make any game un-enjoyable.

If you have any ideas or whatever that would make the game better, let me know, I've got the programming experience to implement almost anything into a text-based game.
Well if you're looking to run it, i got a dozen different unix servers sitting on some nice bandwith. PM me if you need more info. i'd be glad to host it as long as you can run it;)

Let's try to keep this thread on topic though, I'm not helping any grin.
Ok, rule #1 of *nix exploring. don't ever ever BUY or USE redhat. Redhat sucks so bad. I really don't see why anyone uses it. Sure, it uses ext3 and journaling filesystems, but that's about it. It installs so much other SHIT you don't need, and those programs become security threates. I'm just not a big fan of linux myself. The kernel is way slow and unstable. If you are going to use a linux (bleh) use slackware. It's BSD based and very secure, stable and more functional. Redhat is just way to pricy and bloated. Half of our dedicated machines at work run rh7.3 or 8.0 and they ALWAYS crash. It's disgusting. I prefer FreeBSD and/or Slackware linux. (www.slackware.com). If you really wanna get this up, lemme know and i can help you in any way i can.
Just bloating my opinion...

This mud has some good ideas from what you've listed, Speed. However, remorting is stupid. Just a personal opinion. If I get a char to max level, I'm not gonna drop him to level 1 just to do it all over again.
As for pvp, i-net muds, espesially ones that are Merc (ie Diku) based have great transporation spells -- gate, nexus, summon, a few more depending on the mud.. So size isnt an issue as those spells allow you to teleport to a specific npc and/or person. Overall, pvp is really great on i-net muds, mainly because since you have access to the source code, you can do really neat and interesting things with it. I used to play Vampire Wars (based on White Wolf's game.. a variation of God Wars which is based from ALL of White Wolf's games..).. and on there, they used to track monster kills/death, pvp kills/deaths and all those would have point values. Then a webpage would be updated automatically in a ladder type system.

You share the view of many people, but there are still many that don't. If you join the game, you do not have to remort, that's your choice. You will although get a bonus to stats and skills if/when you do. Personally, I would rather get to max level and start over with a bonus (making it easier the next time) than go to a level double what I just got to. It's all an opinion thing. I'll put some things in for players of max level that don't want to remort, but remorting will still be the best option if you wish to develop your character.

As I said, this game is HEAVILY modified. As-in, they ripped everything out of the game and started fresh other than accepting telnet connections. Fatemud does have these spells, but my game most likely wont. I dislike them in a game like this. The only teleport-style spell will be word of recall, which is difficult to cast in pvp. If I find they are in the source code that I have, I will test them and see if they are effective in pvp or not.

If anyone wants to know how an Emlen mud plays before they answer, search on Mudconnector for Emlen and you'll come up with a couple.

But from what they said, you wouldn't even know the names of chars on the other team (except everyone will just make a dupe;) so I dunno how that would work. And PvP on the (very few) net muds I have seen was not as fun as in MajorMud. But it'd be fun to try :)
