ok down here we have lots of covairs in junk yards. shipping would be minimal.

most of the wreaking yards lets me have small stuff. tell what you want and i'll trip out and look.

Are you serious??? If you can find a Driver side Headlight Bezel for a 65 Corvair, I could really use it. Let me know. Thanks in advance.

That would be badass...i'm also missing most of the emblems...both trunk emblems are gone...I am doubting you could find it, but i'm seriously needing 2 fast idle arms and throttle linkage arms on both sides....If there's Corvairs with the carbs still on them, those parts will be there. I wish i had the one fast idle arm with me so i could take a pic, but i haven't gotten it back from the first guy who couldn't fabricate it. The throttle linkage arms attach to the center throttle bar that goes right over the center of the motor. It's the bar that attaches the throttle bar to the carbs. It sits at the perfect length for idle and acceleration...since mine mysteriously dissapeared, i had to make some out of coat hangers...my idle is a bit high, then a bit low, these hangers aren't doing the job perfectly, but for the time being, it's somehow working. The fast idle levers are found near the top of the carb. It's a little yellow plastic piece that looks more like a bushing with a little lever on one side. When you flap the throttle on the top of the carbs, you can see the piece moving. Man, if you cold find these parts, i don't know what i'd do...but i'd be astonished.

There used to be alot of yards in Illinois like that. The older I get the fewer and far between they are. I'm trying to get a photo up of the pieces i'm needing. I need to get on a pc with paint shop so i can circle the parts in a couple pics for ya. I figure that'd give you a great idea of what i'm needing.

The places around here will let you go out on your own....the parts i'm needing for the carbs are small enough to pocket. The headlight bezel will fit into a small tool box. If there were any Corvairs out here, i'd take care of biz myself. I'd only gank the parts if it was from a yard though. If i knew of any Corvair owners i'd ask if they had any parts laying around. I couldn't see a yard charging anymore than a couple bucks if anything for the carb parts and $15 bucks TOPS for the Driver headlight bezel. Unless the yards where you're at are different from the ones here. I've always been able to haggle prices really sly like though. Hopefully they have what i'm needing. I'd be enthrawled.

Today, being the great guy that he is, stu helped me tweek on the carbs some more...We got them nice enough to fire up right away, hold a solid idle, rev up, and go back down to proper rpm...Then, we went out to half a dozen parts stores and started piecing together the new dual exhaust system...We found new manifold packings in a set for under 15 bones...shock and surprise there...Then we picked up some thrush turbo mufflers...I've dealt with thrush in the past on other applications, it won't sound "great" by any means, but it will quiet everything down where it needs to be...We also picked up some pipe adapters thinking that the stock pipe was 1 7/8"...It turns out, the pipe on the car is 1 1/4"....The stock size is 1 7/8" though...So since the stock tubing is obviously not present, we need to go back and exchange in hopes of finding 1 1/4 to 1 7/8 expander piece...If you're still following me, you'll notice that we're going straight pipe to mufflers...going from 1 1/4" to 2" exit.

Oh yeah, i probably should mention that this whole entire exhaust set-up was funded by none other than stu himself.

Got the new exhaust mounted up...I must say, it sounds alot better...it's pretty quiet untill you tap the gas, then it sounds like cherry bombs, ahh yesss, the sound of a 60's Chevrolet....There's still a couple bugs and adjustments to be made such as making sure the mufflers are a little more even sitting and another couple clamps for better sealing...here's the pics though.

I wish i had some more high temp paint when doing this work...I would've sanded and painted the exhaust manifold....The mufflers sit about an inch from the valve covers, I might have to put up a heat shield...we'll see i guess.

Forgot to mention, after installing the exhaust, I messed around with the idle level a bit more. I lowered the idle quite drastically actually. It prolly is sitting at around 400rpm. I don't think the stock taco meter is very accurate. It reads that i'm idling around 300rpm. Factory setting is at 500rpm, but i like my idle to be a bit lower....it makes it idle a tad lumpy. There's still a little gas seapage around both carbs. One of the rainy days this week, i'm going to pull the carbs back off, pull apart the tops and put a small bead of rtv black around both sides of the gaskets. It seems like that's where the leaks are coming from. It's a very small amount though...Not enough to scare me into not driving the car, even though any gas leaking could be potentially deadly.

some update pics. The rain held off most of the day, so i decided to let her run for a while. I got so ancy to take it out for a little drive, but stu's car was blocking me in and I didn't wanna play musical cars. I shouldn't be driving around with no tags anyways. Can anyone get an old Illinois plate from 1965? I can register with that plate...that'd be bitchin.
