Man I hate to see nice cars in the snow... Makes me glad i live in SD :)

I know. I didn't have a choice though. We got hit with a snowstorm (lucky me) on the morning of the delivery. The neon was blocking the garage and we couldn't get a tow truck here for like 2 hours after the car was delivered. My only option was to leave it outside. In that -10 degree weather with snow falling is where i got the thing running. quite a task if i say so myself.it'll never see snow again. I promised the car that earlier when i washed and covered it.

I pulled off the dual exhaust setup that came on the car today. The driver side had a really nasty leak. When i got it off it was obvious why. Someone, with little to no knowledge of welding put shitty worms (welding beads)all around the point where the muffler meets the down pipe. This not only obviously didn't work for sealing the leak, but also jacked up the downpipe. Being on a budget(unemployed) i'm gonna have to cut the mufflers from the downpipe in hopes to be able to save the downpipe. I have a really badass idea to setup a lakespipe deal coming out just infront of the rear wheels. I'm not sure if it'll actually clear because of the limited space out back. I'll get out there tomorrow and check all that out. If it doesn't work, i'll probably just put some cherry bombs out back. The car came with a set of old cherry bombs, they sounded like crap and didn't mount properly(probably had something to do with it). The flanges didn't even line up correctly which makes me think they were never even on the car. I ran it for a few minutes with just the exhaust manifolds, sounded like a weird mix of a hotrod and a lawn tractor on steroids. My main concern is getting a nice sealed exhaust on and rebuilding or ordering rebuilt carbs. The rebuild kits are only gonna cost me about 60 bucks less than the already rebuilt carbs. The current carbs are Rochester and the rebuilds i'm not sure of. They are a quality rebuild though and come with all mounting seals necessary. I'm gonna have only around 500 bucks to use for now, so my main goal is to stretch that money as much as I can to get the car safely on the road in another month or two (whenever the snow stays gone). Hopefully, before that point hits, i'll have some kind of job to help fund her rebuild a bit more, otherwise, i'll end up rebuilding the whole car with yard parts. I'm betting i can get the whole car redone for under a grand. I'll just have to tap into my inner redneck.

Don't know if I ever mentioned that the car turns out to be a 500. The center ring on the steering wheel is from a Monza. I was hoping for a Monza, so it's nice to be able to see the Monza logo every time i'm driving the car. The wheels are 14" Rally wheels from another car. The ignition system seems to work great. Cranks really strong. I'm ordering a Pertronix ignitor Points elimination for the distributor which will switch over from points driven to electronic driven distributor, this will vertually eliminate my need to change burned out points...this system is very effective and costs less than 100 bucks and only takes about ten minutes to install under distributor cap. The Rochester carbs are getting a "full" rebuild on both primary and secondary. I wanted to rebuild the carbs rather than replace because "I" personally like the Rochester carb better than an aftermarket "Holley" carb.

When pulling the exhaust off, I noticed a section of heater hose missing under the car, this would be why my heater and defrosters don't work. I'm ordering a six foot section of 3inch heater hose to fix that problem.

Today i buckled down and got alot accomplished on the car.

The entire engine compartment has been undercoated and painted flat-black. All the wiring was re-organized.

Removed the spare tire mount.

Cleaned and polished pcv system.



While taking a "smoke" break, i brought out the 20 feet of Black Velvet I had bought for the interior on the 66 Satellite. Took measurements and chalked out cut points for front and rear bench's.



Then, i pulled off all the exterior window chrome and cleaned out all the dirt and leaves that accumulated underneith the chrome. Then, i went around the front and rear windshields with some black silicone to make sure she doesn't leak anywhere.



Then, i detailed the top half of the interior.....I feel I finally got enough accomplished. I've been working on this car for at least a couple hours a day, but today was more around 8 hours of almost straight work. I'll have pics of the engine compartment up sometime tomorrow once the camera is charged back up.

Usually, I search for cars in the $1,500.00 range. Anyone asking under 2k will always negotiate if cash is on hand. Obviously, the Corvair was one of those "rare and unusual" findings. If the guy really knew what he had, the price would've been alot higher. The more you search for cars, the more you'll find.

Someone (prolly me) seems to have misplaced the usb cord for the camera.
