I had said 13 states, in actuality it's 12 states. If you win those 12 states, you win the election. How again is that giving the smaller states a voice? Noone's been able to tell me that.

Nobody has ever won the top 12 states, because they know they damn well better be campaigning the small states just as much as the larger states. Without the electoral college, they would simply have to campaign the top 9 states alone (which is a population of 142 million) to hold the election.

They'd have to campaign the top 9 states and carry all votes in that state. The top 9 states accounted for 51,939,238 votes in the 2000 election. Gore had 51,003,238. Mind you, that was with split numbers across all of the top 9 states.
Personally, I believe they should make it so the votes are divided between a state like the voters are. That would add a little more validity to the electoral college, as well as make it more "democratic" since we still like to parade around as a "democracy".
