Xetox, do you read Jason Whitlock? I copied his list of predictions for upcoming season. This was from his 4/10/06 column. Interesting!
excerpts from Jason Whitlock's KC star article:
You can gossip about pro football. With that in mind, here’s my pre-draft, pre-mini camp, pre-training camp and pre-exhibition season gossip about the Chiefs’ schedule. And just like my predictions about “The Sopranos” don’t hold me to any of this once the season starts.
■ Bengals: Herm Edwards and the Chiefs catch the Bengals at the perfect time — long before Carson Palmer is totally recovered from the knee injury that wrecked Cincy’s playoff appearance. Chiefs 23, Bengals 17.
■ At Denver: The Broncos are going to miss Trevor Pryce, now a Baltimore Raven. Why didn’t the Chiefs go after Pryce when the Broncos cut him? Still, Tatum Bell and Denver’s running game beat up KC’s improved defense. Broncos 28, Chiefs 24.
■ 49ers: If you can’t beat Alex Smith and the 49ers in Arrowhead Stadium, you’re an awful, awful football team. Chiefs 30, 49ers 17.
■ At Cardinals: What was Edgerrin James thinking? Did he not talk with Emmitt Smith before making this move? The Cardinals have terrific receivers, a fragile quarterback and a terrible offensive line. Chiefs 24, Cardinals 20.
■ At Steelers: The battle of Marty Schottenheimer disciples — Herm vs. Bill Cowher — goes to the guy playing at home with the Super Bowl ring. The Chiefs will miss at least two field goals. Steelers 27, Chiefs 21.
■ Chargers: Marty’s swan song in Diego won’t be pretty. He messed up San Diego’s QB situation and will pay a huge price this year when Philip Rivers tanks. Chiefs 26, Chargers 17.
■ Seahawks: Chiefs will regret letting defensive tackle Rocky Bernard get out of town without a contract. He’s back in Seattle and the Seahawks’ defense will play well inside Arrowhead. Seahawks 21, Chiefs 17.
■ At Rams: I see the Rams being halfway decent even with a rookie coach, Scott Linehan. This will be a tough game that will get decided by a field goal late. Chiefs 23, Rams 21.
■ At Dolphins: OK, I’m not a Daunte Culpepper fan at all. But I do like coach Nick Saban, and the Dolphins were pretty good with Gus Frerotte at QB. Dolphins 30, Chiefs 28.
■ Raiders: Art Shell gets handed a team in total disarray. It’s going to be an ugly year for Art. Chiefs 35, Raiders 17.
■ Broncos: Larry Johnson and the offensive line start thinking about 2,000 yards and the Chiefs rip through Denver. LJ runs for his second straight 200-yard game. Chiefs 24, Broncos 20.
■ At Browns: I’m not a Charlie Frye guy. I normally like MAC quarterbacks, but Charlie doesn’t do it for me. The Browns have a pitiful offense. The Chiefs take advantage and get a nice road victory. Chiefs 21, Browns 13.
■ Ravens: The Ravens are going to regret hanging onto to coach Brian Billick for another year. The Baltimore players are tuning him out, and Ray Lewis’ little pre-game dance has lost all of its magic. Chiefs 27, Ravens 16.
■ At Chargers: Marty messed up the QB situation, but he can still coach defense. San Diego’s D rises up and shuts down the LJ express. Chargers win an ugly one. Chargers 13, Chiefs 10.
■ At Raiders: Al Davis is actually on the sidelines late in the season, wearing a headset and calling all offensive plays. Art Shell still has the head-coach title, but he’s relegated to carrying the cord to Davis’ headset. Chiefs 31, Raiders 28.
■ Jaguars: Jags are good again playing ultra-conservative football. But Chiefs pick up 11th victory of the season as LJ guts out 110 yards on the ground and cracks the 2,000-yard barrier. Chiefs 20, Jaguars 17.
These predictions are all contingent on the Chiefs signing Ty Law.
