Re: World of Warcraft
Ok, so I got my Hunter to 60, and in the off-time when my guild isn't raiding for gear, I play my 33 Troll Rogue. I've been reading up about the different builds for rogues; mace / dagger / sword blah blah.. I've been using daggers until this level, and had a great time doing it. However, I hear alot of talk about swords being better damage, etc. I do like being able to sneak up behind someone and throw a high-crit Ambush, and I think the dagger's speed makes up for the dps difference between it and a sword. I went full Combat build yesterday with swords, and seem to be doing ok damage-wise, but I'm not getting those satisfying crits I was getting with an Assassination build. So, any suggestions? Maybe dagger/sword, with a mix of Assassin/Sublety build? I noticed, Ari, that you have a 60 rogue, maybe you could throw me some tips.
Re: World of Warcraft
Well, I actually haven't been playing the rogue much lately. Working nights I can't find many raids in the morning, when I could go. So rolled a druid now and got him up to 30. So this information isn't based on a lot of end game experience, but rather is just a regurgatation of what I've read/played around with.
Like you, I went assas. for the first 40 or so levels, and it worked out decent. You can get some major burst damage, and even continue it every now and then if your cooldowns are lined up right. Personally, I like combat build for it's constant damage. I'm not dropping a mob down to 60% in 2 hits (ambush, gouge, backstab), but rather I kill stuff at a more measured pace.
Servers are down atm (which is why I randomly came here), but I have a text document with the build I used for grinding from 50+. You'll notice it's a little odd, but it worked to the way I was playing.
*_Assassination Talents_ - * 30 points

In addition to this, I grabbed a macro from a google search that tied in riposte to my sinister strike key. It'd try to riposte first if it was active, and if not would attempt to sinister strike. This was awesome before the last patch, because riposte wasn't subject to a cooldown, so you could chain hits together, even off them blocking your previous riposte.
This is a lot more boring than assassin, and I also play on a PvE server and don't pvp much, so that was never an issue. I kept intending to respec at 60 to fix some wasted points such as blade flurry and precision/riposte, since I don't need to tank in raids, but now that they changed the +to hit% for off-hand weapons, I'm just going to keep it for now, since it helps when farming. In addition to this, the weapons you have really determine a lot. My rogue still uses a f'n thrash blade, but with the setup I have I'm always top of the list in the 10-15 man raids, which is a good thing but again I haven't tested it on any EG content. I also haven't played assassin. spec since 40ish, so this is a biased post, obviously.
I'm likely not going to be playing much of the rogue save for weekends until they get their chance at "balancing". I like my new rogue, I hit a button and he can now heal, I hit another button and I he can tank. This feral druid is so easy to level it's sick, and when I switch over to resto spec. for the late levels, instances shoiuld be a breeze to get invites for. As it stands now, I have 4 pieces of +healing gear I carry around, which adds 100 to healing at lvl 30, which really helps if I get into a group and need to take over healing.

Re: World of Warcraft
Just wanted to add: I finally saw off-hand piece of weaponset from ubrs, and rolled a 2 on it, with two other rogues rolling. /sigh

Re: World of Warcraft
Yeah, that's the one. Was a badass combat set before the instant attack "fixes". Even so, I did lots of ubrs runs before I saw even one of the set pieces drop.
He also drops felstriker ( http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?i=20470 ). If I won that, I'd first change into a clean set of pants, and then proceed to go back to assassination spec.

Re: World of Warcraft
Does everyone play on the main blizzard server or do some people play on private servers? If you play on a private server please PM me. I am having a hard time finding a "decent" private server. I am debating dropping money to play on blizzards but id prefer not too. Id rather a tight knit group on a private game.

Re: World of Warcraft
btw all of the private servers that i know of (and the sites that track them) have been shut down.
moreover all of the places that had information about hosting a private server, or connecting to a private server have also been shutdown.
where are you getting your info on private servers?

Re: World of Warcraft
googling mostly for a few initial leads then going from there and seeing what I can find. Ive managed a few leads but the latency is really high.
From what I played yesterday I dont think its worth 15 bucks a month since I only have 3-4 hours a week to actually play it which is why I was looking for "free". Guess ill have to shelf this game and move on to something else. Half-life 2 on the xbox has me hooked for now but im almost through that. I dont know why Blizzard cant go back to being free like Diablo 2 was. Id much rather pay 20-30 bucks for a decent sized upgrade/update to the game and have monthly access free.
