a majority of the people still actively playing majormud (all encompassing statement) are:

1) not pursuing higher levels of education that require a lot of time studying (dual majors in computer engineering/electrical engineering dealy-os).

2) not going to college at all and doing jobs that range from minimum wage to potentially $15/hour

3) older people who never accomplished anything in their lives anyhow

4) older people who did something but have some physical or psychological problems

5) nerds focusing their energies into mastering the game to develop self-worth, self-pride, egos, etc

6) psychotic people who pretend to be opposite genders and or attempt to use it as a last ditch dating service in some indirect way

7) socially inept people who are incapable of communication with people who are extremely extraverted, extremely physically attractive, etc.

8) in the very rare case that is pretty unlikely to be true but more less used to cover up the REAL reasons for playing.. they enjoy the roleplaying game and it's stories..

9) people who aren't going anywhere in life anyhow but enjoy the simple satisfaction of watching something they don't materialy own become "bigger"

10) the "ub3r 3l33t h4x0r pwon" people who have the worst ego of them all... basically indirectly demanding and creating an assumed respect amongst themselves for their countless hours of figuring out formulas to the actual game and various other things..



do what i did, quit. or atleast post so infrequently that it becomes trivial and less interesting to you more and more til you quit completely. only positive thing i can say about majormud is it was a slight learning vessel for me to become computer-smart analogous to street-smart as in i can handle most problems that arise, myself. such as needing to crack something that would take me less time than sifting through warez/crack sites with thousands of spyware/spam/pop-unders/ups..

Not only did that entire list have absolutely nothing to do with this topic, it is also extremely bias and without substance. You say you quit, but if you still lurk the forums, you'll inevitably be back for four hundredths (since everyone quits and comes back hundreds of times). Your entire list is comprised of self-reflecting statements, which means you need to find a little more confidence in yourself. To think everyone who plays a out-of-date text game is either a freak, nerd, or psycho is pretty foolish on your part. You would have had to meet "most" of the MajorMud community in person to actually come up with these ridiculous thoughts; and in the case that you made it a point to drive around the United States to meet all these charming individuals, then you are the freak/nerd/psycho. I'm sure your statements cover some of the population of mudders, but if you look at every other hobby, you can find just as many (if not more) people under the same categories. Especially people who perform witchcraft and shit like that. So before you try and do what every other moron who thinks he is enlightened enough to quit the game, therefore being better than anyone else in his mind, stop and take the time to think that not everyone is you Erek.



P.S. I have seen many conversations on BBS's about what college someone attends and their majors, as well as people who have received degrees and are working in their desired job within their field of study.

i think you misunderstood what he meant. see, erek said only positive thing i can say about majormud is it was a slight learning vessel for me to become computer-smart (assume a comma)analogous to street-smart(assume another comma) as in i can handle most problems that arise,(as in, most computer-related problems that arise. see his use of the phrase "computer-smart")



he didn't meant street smart like how you avoid getting ripped off or something; he meant street smart as in computer-smart...or something.

Well, if I misunderstood Micah's statement about street-smarts, maybe he needs to learn how to break up his sentences correctly so they don't get misconstrued anymore. I'm the moron because you can't accurately break up your sentences? For a kid who always speaks of his high intelligence and hard work he is doing in college, you sure don't know how the hell to use grammar properly. And once again, to have any validity to the statements Erek has made above, he would have had to have met "a majority of people playing majormud actively". I will once again stress that all hobbies have a wide range of people who encompass these attributes.



Another thing is people who "actively play MajorMud" don't actually play much of it at all. With people scripting pretty much the whole day, this free's up time for them to have a LIFE. You could possibly have argued these points back before telemate, considering if you saw someone on 14 hours a day that would constitute under some type of extreme introverted behavior, but with most of the active community hardly ever at keys, this leaves room for people to pursue other things.

untrue. after talking to someone online, be it in mud or some chat program, you get to know the person, sometimes quite well. i've never met micah in real life, but i've been talking to him online for like, 6 years or something now, and i think i know him pretty well. same goes for most other people i've met online.

if anything, talking to someone online can let you know more things about them, because they could be less inhibited or something.

I don't screw around with quoting, because quite frankly, I don't give a shit enough to go through and do it. But here it goes:



1. I can't help that I am used to reading statements broken up by punctuation and such, and I don't truly analyze every statement to try and figure out what they would mean if the poster did it correctly. Using the compound word "street-smarts" is a horrible comparison to use when talking about computers, anyways.



2. If someone states that the other is a moron, and can't formulate a sentence without proper punctuation, I am going to point this out. Plus, any idiot who takes the time to define something that stupid in a dictionary should never be quoted. Or whoever looks that shit up.



3. !Newsflash! - ANYONE WHO THINKS THEY KNOW A LOT ABOUT SOMEONE FROM A MAJORMUD GAME OR AIM CONVERSATIONS, MAY BE BORDERLINE RETARDED. And here's why:

A. I could tell someone I'm a 35 year old lawyer who is married to an aspiring model, and I drive a viper. I could play this off for the supposed 6 years of knowing you. Now the possibility someone would do that for 6 years is pretty ridiculous, but it is a definate possiblity they don't let you in on all the information it would take you to find out from one encounter with this person.

B. A person is much more inhibited in a social atmosphere than when they are online, which is understandable. A person may act strongwilled when they are playing their stupid MajorMud character, but in reality might shy away from any confrontation that comes before them. You are meeting a type of alterego when online, not who the person truly is. And if you want to actually try and tell me you are cockhard to confront everyone for no apparent reason in reality like you do in Mud, Artic, then I will certainly call your bullshit.



4. Now you are just looking for stupid shit to say. If that statement is focusing on the majormudders of the far past (that would be like 7 or more years ago), then I understand his argument. But since I'm not going to play antagonist just for the fun of it, I'll probably understand that he is also focusing MOSTLY on the mudders of today. Forget about time? If you want to only prove your loosely put together argument, then we'd forget a major factor in if the person has NOTHING better to do. Scripts have freed up a person to A. Go off and booze, play sports, mass murder, etc. and B. Still given them the chance to come back for a few hours of downtime to enjoy a simple hobby. Yet this statement is wrong, and people who go to Anime conventions are so much cooler? Yes, MajorMud is the most ridiculous hobby ever, and everyone who goes fly fishing every weekend has the charisma of a politican..right.
