Yeah so my cable modem is junk....I got the linksys befcmu10 which after reading tons of web reviews, seemed to be the best choice. guess it wasn't. Does anyone have any suggestions? Motorola was another one i was looking at that had a lot of good reviews. Anyway, as soon as I get this sorted out the board will be back up.

Motorola is best I think. They can keep the connection even when the signal is bad from what I have heard. I have had a motorola forever and have never had any problems at all with it. The cable network is a different story but the modem is 4 years old now atleast with no problems.



It sounds like your having issues with your signal to your cable modem to me. Point your web browser to http://192.168.100.1 and see if it gives you anything there. With the motorola modems you can check the signal levels. You should have between -15 to +15 dBmV downstream power level. Mine is currently 4 dBmV. Having a good downstream power level usually means you have a good Signal to Noise Ratio. It should probably be above 30 dB but it is possible it would work lower into high 20s. Mine is currently 34 dB.

If you are having signal level issues then you should check how many places the cable is spliced before your cable modem is connected. I have tons of tvs in my house so I made sure that my cable modem is at the beginning of the drop. I have a two way splitter that splits one line to the cable modem with the other going to the tvs. This ensures that the cable modem gets the best power level possible. I have also added an amplifier to help out my signal. Goodluck.

Mine said the same thing about me running Lunar DYnamics,i just wrote them a nasty email back and they never bothered me again about it. Who do you use for Broadband?

syntax...I contacted them when I was having problems with my modem. The tech I talked to said "it's probably not a good idea to be running a server on your computer, you can get your account suspended for that"

you probably said something that hinted towards it. either that or you aren't behind a firewall/router and he simply looked at the OS you were running.
