Oh, sorry Necro, I misunderstood your post. It's a novel idea, and I hope that you find the funding for it, but personally I gave up paying to play Mmud back in Dialup days.

Interested to see where your board goes Necro... I would just consider other options such as Sven noted before even pondering making a board running off of donations/pay.

I have thought of that. There are only a few people that I really know that run boards that I know I could trust. One dont want anything but a legit/nonedited, and the other few already have edited boards. Shrug, maybe in a year after I get out aschool and get a good job making some decent money I can afford it...until then...I guess ill just have to keep editing away.

Raiden, apparently you don't know much. You say no one will donate I may beg to differ. I remember about a year or so ago, someone did more than donate money to a edited board, they donated a WHOLE computer to an edited board, and that board would happen to be Morbid BBS. Now whatever happened to that computer is unknown to me I just know for a fact that there are people out there who, if you do edit a board good, will donate.





Same with Lunar Dynamics.

just from knowing mudders, i'd venture to guess that raiden is right. you may get isolated donations, but i really don't see a good percentage of your users going and donating enough to keep the board running. even assuming 10% donate, which seem like outlandishly good odds to me, if they each donate 5 bucks you'll need 100 users to break even on running a regular cable line -- which means you'll have about enough bandwidth to support 56, maybe 64 users comfortably. the problem only increases as you get larger.

an old computer is different from $50/month for dsl tho...

It wasn't an old computer, if I remember right, Ray. It was a completely new system donated by a very nice person who's better off than I am. :wordup:
