keep this thread on the topic of TCP ports and bbs's and it will stay open. rediscuss the original topic and it gets closed.

Hey guys, I was wondering if any of you know where I can find ... ... My college blocks all ports so I want to run a server on my computer then play by myself. It'd be awesome if you guys could help me. ;)

What college do you go to?

I've already tried using a proxy to attach itself to another port. I've used the HTTP2Telnet proxy at mosha.net, and I've also tried using a program called HTTPort. None of them work. If you want to see what I've posted on another forum you can go here: http://www.gammon.com.au/forum/bbshowpost.php?bbsubject_id=3323

That pretty much sums up my situation. As you can see, there's not much I can do. I figure the only way I can play MM is to host it on my computer. So again, I'd be happy if someone could supply. :)

First, can you get your IT guy to open up a SSH port? Convince him you need it to do remote administration of a website that you own... All you have to do is find a shell account and you can telnet out from there. Of course Megamud won't work, but so what - you got what you were after. Also. SSH traffic is encrypted so he can't be a nosey little admin and snoop your sessions.

Second, it pretty much sounds like your tech people at school are pricks so I wouldn't try any of that proxy/whatever/whatever stuff. Snooping traffic is easy, especially if it's plain text. They are trying to keep you from anything that is not educational so i'm sure playing a MUD is something that can get you in trouble.

Finally, can't you get an outside ISP? I don't really see how they can deny you this seeing as how it kind of infringes on your constitutional rights...

If it's really a big deal, just subscribe to somethingn like Sprint's VISION service. Hook that up to your computer and you have wireless internet that bypasses your school's network.

Dude, do you read my posts? :) My college FW is blocking ALL outgoing and incoming ports but 80. I.E. no telnet. Sheesh man, if I could play I wouldn't be looking for MM.

Well, considering drcorey said a while back he could make WG use any port...all you have to do is find a sysop and convince them to do it ;)

Oh, I have a sysop friend. She's tried opening ports and having me connect to em, but no go. No ports are open, not even 80. I think everything goes through the proxy which THEN goes through 80. Anyways, it's all cool now.

What Platinum meant was that DrCorey can make it so that WG itself accepts incoming calls to whatever port. He's got all kinds of developers kits, and he changes port 23 in the code to whatever port you wish, and recompiles.
