I don't see why selling glassware is illegal in the first place. Many states don't even have laws against that... its frickin pieces of glass, and it can be used for legal purposes (tobacco smoking, or just decoration). Why should you get 9 months jail, 1 year probation, $20k in fines and $100k in penalties for that?!?
As for the 1lb of weed thing... yeah, that's illegal, but again the above penalties are FAR too steep considering the crime. And knowing Chong's history, 1lb could EASILY just be personal use for the guy, rather than intent to distribute.
Statutes more than likely read that anyone with a pound of maijuana fall into the "intent to distribute" category and that punishment isn't terribly bad for intent to distribute drugs. The problem is, he made those bongs for smoking marijuana, spare me the "they are just glassware that could have other uses". It's still drug paraphernalia. Like I said, get more people to vote and you could possibly change it.
I'm tired of hearing all this crap about marijuana being good for you or how it's better for you than this and that. It's not good for you, it causes a lot of problems and no accredited doctor says it has any medical use. You pot smokers are going to get your way someday and it'll be legalized and you all will regret it.

Hahaha..Marijuana isn't as bad for you as cigarette's, and they're legal. Oh, lets go sue everyone who smokes and distributes that.
It's not 'good' for you, and it doesn't cause nearly as many problems as you think. No accredited doctor says it has any medical use? Bullshit..that's why doctors in Canada perscribe it to people.
Why will people who smoke marijuana regret it being lagalized? that's dumb..it'll be legal to grow/sell with some sort of 'liscense' but do you HONESTLY think anyone will buy a pack of marijuana cigarettes? I don't know anyone who would, they're just going to put a million life-threatening additives in it like they did tobaco. I'll still be growin and smokin my own, fuck what ya think about that ;)

Yeah, and my point was those statutes are ridiculous, since (as I said) someone like Chong could easily have a pound for personal use. I think it's utterly stupid that the law can establish intent based on weighing something... it's completely nonsensical.
The problem is, he made those bongs for smoking marijuana, spare me the "they are just glassware that could have other uses". It's still drug paraphernalia.
He made the bongs for selling... the merchant has no say over what the customer uses a product for. Should all knives be illegal because they COULD be used for stabbing people?
Again, it's just GLASS... going to jail for selling glass is frickin insane. Violent criminal offenders get less jail time than that, and are a much larger menace to society than someone who's selling pieces of glass on the internet. cripes.

Please tell me, how is it bad for me, and why will I regret it when it's legalized?
The only way I can see it's bad for me is damage to my lungs... as for regretting when it's legalized, I don't see any reason to regret that at all.

Re: Chong jailed for selling glass
You will regret the legalization because they won't make it legal to grow in the home, only to be sold through authorized resellers. More than likely through liquor licenses, much the same way cigarettes are sold legally. You will pay much higher prices for them because they will be manufactured much like cigarettes, etc. The government will make a killing on them, the same as they've done to cigarettes. Neither should be legal. As for selling pipes and your comment on nonsensicalness. Isn't it presumptuous to say that he has no say in what they're used for, but most marijuana bongs/pipes wouldn't benefit a cigarette or pipe smoker. Let's get serious, free enterprise has it's limits. When something is made for one sole purpose, like the bongs were, they have no other valid uses and therefore couldn't be compared to knives which have a multitude of uses outside of illegal ones.
Re: Chong jailed for selling glass
The government makes shit on cigarettes... all the extra taxes and crap go to the lives of the families that lost a loved one due to them smoking there brains out...

Re: Chong jailed for selling glass
they make more than you think, cigarettes, beer, and gas are a large income for the government, why do you think they're not banned? Our governments would go bust without these taxes.
Re: Chong jailed for selling glass
so if they say you can't grow/sell it unless you have a certain peice of paper whats gonna stop me from growing it and selling it the same as when it was legal?
Re: Chong jailed for selling glass
Ok Dumb question time?
So from Cheech gettin busted for selling glass.
It's illegal to sell bongs and paraphenelia in the US or is it just certain States?
Here in Canada; you can buy crack pipes in corner stores. Bongs in the larger hemp stores, Paraphelia, we got everything you want, legal.

I've had a pound for personal before. Lasted me about two months. Granted, it was just some regs, but it was a pound nonetheless. I wasn't planning on distributing it. Granted, most people wouldn't have a pound for personal, but as you say, it can happen.

Sigh... yet another ignorant person who doesn't smoke weed. It's ok, you're excused, since you share the views of everyone else who doesn't smoke. You really shouldn't talk about something like this unless you know what you are talking about. Here's the real deal.
You will regret the legalization because they won't make it legal to grow in the home, only to be sold through authorized resellers.
#1 - Bullshit.
#2 - Nobody is pushing for it to be legalized. That's a step in the future. Right now, we are focused on decriminalization. You think it's not going to be legal to grow in the home? Think of who is trying to develop the new laws. Lawmakers and politicians, who are smarter than fuck, who smoke weed. When the laws are developed and proposed, they -ALWAYS- include a clause for personal growing. Always. Marijuana will NOT be legalized/decriminalized unless it is legal to grow at least one personal plant, in order to remove the dangers of commercial shipping. Potheads are smarter than you think. When appealing to the courts in the decriminalization aspect, we go for all counts of safety. Included in this is the safety issue of smoking a commercially shipped joint. A big part of the argument is the natural aspect of marijuana. From it's purest form, it is completely smokable. You don't have to do anything to it. You -can- just pull a bud off of a plant, and smoke it. Burn it slow, burn it well, and you will get a decent hit (not nearly as good as if you were to cure it), but you can do it, and a lot of growers do. We aren't going to push for legalization/decriminalization without personal growing, that's one of the main arguments in the process. Not just safety in the smoking aspect, but in order to remove ones self from the black market. Regardless of whether or not it is sold in stores, there will still be a black market for it, there always will be. Read up on it before you speak up on it.

So, you are basically saying that everyone who has started up a head shop in the united states should be fined, shut down, and sent to jail? That's all I can gather from your post. You don't agree with the fact that they are legally sold. These people, POTHEADS, are EXTREMELY productive members of society, entrepreneurs that started their own business, employ their own staff, and have a good time doing it. They are responsible enough to keep payroll open, keep their shops stocked, and please their customers. Who are you to tell them that they shouldn't be able to profit off of other people doing something illegal? You are judging people and their intents with little knowledge of the subject. Get off your high horse and open your eyes, these people are productive members of society just trying to make a living like everyone else. Why turn productive members of society into criminals?
The only thing someone is doing wrong when smoking weed, is breaking the law.
no accredited doctor says it has any medical use.
Again, ignorance. It's ok, it's not your fault, you just don't know any better. No accredited doctor says that it has any medical use? Fuck the accredited doctor. How about you go to the 60 year old guy with glaucoma, cancer, or any kind of disease that is eating their body away from the inside, and tell them that it has no medical use. Go ahead. That person doesn't need vikodin. He doesn't need codeine. (No, I'm not sure if I'm spelling these right) He doesn't need any kind of that pain medication. All he needs to keep his pains at bay long enough to ENJOY ONE FUCKING MINUTE OF RELAXATION is a bong hit. You go to any person who smokes, and is in a lot of pain for one reason or another, and ask them if they would rather have a bottle of vikodin for the pain, or an eighth of some dank. They'll tell you the dank.
I'm tired of hearing all this crap about marijuana being good for you or how it's better for you than this and that. You're tired of hearing all this crap? Do you know WHY you are tired of hearing all this crap? Because you don't, and NOBODY does, have a valid argument deterring what we say. Marijuana is NOT as bad for you as alcohol. Marijuana is NOT as bad for you as cigarettes. I can sit here all day and give you personal experience reasons, medical reasons, physiological reasons, ALL kinds of reasons as to why my argument stands firm. You can't. You know why I know you can't? Because I'm right, and so is the rest of the world that knows better than to take what the government says down without wondering if maybe they are wrong.
Marijuana wasn't a legal issue in the US until around the 20th century. Not too many americans over here smoked weed, it wasn't in high production as it was in other countries. Know who did smoke? The minority races that were coming over here in every leaky boat they could find. Mexicans, blacks, filipinos, etc... all came over here with plenty of weed.
Know what was happening around the same time? All this racial crap, because everyone was trying to come to America, and high-powered white males didn't like this. These guys just wanted to get rid of the other races, try to make them look bad, try to remove them from their white country. Racist poloticians went around creating myths, producing posters/flyers/rumors and floating them around everywhere they could. They opened the flood gates for the term "Marijuana is a gateway drug." Everyone knows this statement is BULLSHIT. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. It's the same thing as Marijuana being a gateway drug. Marijuana doesn't make people do other drugs, people make people do other drugs. The politicians went on and on about how weed caused violence, crime, insanity, everything bad with the country. All of a sudden, it was more addictive than anything else in the world. They needed SOMETHING to blame this shit on, now that all the minorities are coming into town. By the next generation, marijuana was a household name in the worst way. Every white male in the country that hadn't been previously educated on marijuana by personal experiences immediately turned against it. Every little ole white housewife in the country thought it was the worst thing for their children since the black plague. It spread across the country like wildfire. White americans were angry that large minority populations were "invading" their perfect little neighborhoods. They needed an outlet. Whenever there is a massive change in the country that the general public dislikes, there has to be an outlet. The outlet, in this case, was sadly Marijuana. It was given a bad rap since the beginning of the technological age. The first states to actually pass restrictive laws on marijuana were in the southwest, where large groups of Mexicans came across the border to start working in a free'er country. They knew what was up, their country has a better cultivation climate than ours. Early 1900's, guess what happens. Cali passes laws against weed. Know why? Because the large amounts of Chinese people popping up, creating their own little opium smoking chinatowns. Marijuana was then labeled a poison. Slowly it raised in illegality, first illegal to possess without prescription, second it was put in the same classification as morphine, heroine, and cocaine. Third, it was outlawed entirely. They needed something defenseless in order to blame poverty and prejudice on.

Cheech didn't get arrested, Chong did. I believe it's only certain states. You can purchase them here in VA, as long as it is strictly implied that you ONLY use them for tobacco use. Using the word bong gets you thrown out of the head shop. You have to be very careful of what you say when you go into these places, and I would never go in with red eyes. It's tolerated here, and very lightly. Parephernalia sales warrant a one year stint in prison, a $2500 fine, and gives you a misdemeanor. It goes to a felony and 1-5 years on sales to a minor. I'm not sure as to exactly why Chong is going to jail for it, since there are hundreds of internet head shops that deliver next-day to your door. He probably did something wrong and used the word bong, or another way of identifying his product as paraphernalia.
