I don't have sp2, and was able to uninstall ie.. rather install it down to to 5.0.. and then reinstalled it back to 6.0 sp1. The problem is still there. IE is completely freezing up at times, not just slowing down. It has taken me about 5 minutes (literally) to type this message out due to lag. It seems like I type into nothing and then after a moment of a complete freeze everything I typed shows up.

Try runnin spybot on your machine.... http://www.safer-networking.org/ you may have some spyware messing with ya...

My problem is that Opera is sold, not free. I know we can all find cracks and serials and shit, but the idea behind it sucks. As for what I use, Mozilla is nice, but kinda chunky. Too much stuff. Phoenix (now called Firebird) is a slimmed down version of Mozilla that's just a browser. It has all the pop-up blocking and tabbed browsing features of Opera (and Mozilla), but it doesn't let you read newsgroups or get your email. Which is fine by me, because I'd rather have a seperate program for my mail.



Phoenix (Firebird, sorry) is cool too because every new version gets the install smaller :)



But in reality, nothing is easier to use (on a Windows machine, of course) than IE. It's just too damn simple. And I *hate* Microsoft.

Yep.. I ended up installing Firebird. I've still yet to download new DirectX to see if that fixes things, but I doubt it will. At any rate, even tho only IE seems to be affected, I'm afraid the problem is rooted deeper than that in Windows.

I bet there is an activex control somewhere on your machine that is hosed.....

What version of Windows are you using, and what kind of Internet access do you have?



I found that my Internet Explorer got progressively more messed up after I got Verizon DSL. The PPP-over-Ethernet software that Verizon gives ya just plain sucks, it made my computer horrendously unstable. After buying a router and uninstalling Verizon's crap, my Internet Explorer worked fine again... go figure...

Routers are the best way to go with either DSL or cable, the only problem is setting them up isnt for the average joe six-pac
