I'm sure there is a little more, but our civil court system is a joke. If you are on someone's property, even if it has signs saying "No trespassing", and climb a tree, fall out of it and break your leg, the homeowner's insurance is liable. If someone gets bit by your dog, even if there are the no tresspassing and beware, bad dog signs, their insurance can get sued and paid. Even if that person is trying to break into your house. The utter lack of common sense is laughable at best. Stupid people get rewarded for being stupid.

You do realize this is because signs like "No Trespassing" hold no legal weight? Imagine the consequences of "Step on my lawn and I'll shoot out both of your knee caps." I'm not saying this is right, it's just how it is.



It's as dumb as people attacking you -- if they don't pose a "life threatening danger" to you, you can't do the same to them. If they come at you to punch you, you can't defend yourself with a knife, unless you get them in the arm or leg, and don't hit a large blood vessel.



It's freaking rediculous.

You would think that the judge who awards these cases would have even half a brain to see that these people who are suing are morons...the guy was robbing the house, and got himself stuck in a garage...Thats almost like prison ;) but not the point, he was robbing the place and shoulda been arrested. The guy who sued winnebego was a complete moron...how do you think cruise control means auto-drive??



Come on people, practice some common sense...and the people in the courts should be telling them this and throwin them outta the courtroom.

Yeah, but do you remember the case that the Stella Awards are named after? The woman got a coffee from McDonald's, drove off with it between her legs, and somehow got it spilled all over her crotch, scalding her. Her actual defense was (paraphrased), "I knew the coffee would be hot, but I didn't know it would be hot enough to hurt me."



Now, I take issue with those comments. A: Yes, she did. She's never made coffee before? She's never had McDonald's coffee before (she had, btw, it came up in court)? You're telling me that she had no idea how hot it would be, and actually thought putting piping hot coffee between her legs was safe? B: Regardless of the temperature of the coffee, would she be okay with spilling coffee on her lap? "You know, Your Honor, I wouldn't mind going to work with a big fucking brown stain in my crotch, but the heat, well, that's what upset me." Right. She wasn't just upset that her dumb ass spilled coffee all over herself. No. Not at all.



The problem with frivulous (sp, sorry) lawsuits in America isn't the people who sue, it's the lawyers who take on the case. All lawyers should be able to tell the difference between wrong and right.

Lawyers have mouths to feed, yes they should practice better sense though. It's the rules that allow them to do it though. If they change the rules to disallow frivolous suits, you wouldn't need to blame the tort lawyers.

I heard a similar story to the lawsuits posted above. A man was attempting to break into a business by coming through one of the skylights in the roof. He was walking all over the roof trying to find one that was unlocked when he fell through the roof, landing on the floor of the factory below, also impaling himself with fragments of the roofing material. He lived to sue the place he was trying to rob for $2.4 million or so in damages. Where the hell do >I< sign up for this crap?

Funny and all..but I've seen some of those...almost all of those..well over a year ago.
