Conservatives aren't realists. They're consumed by flawed ideals about many things. They haven't got a clue about economics. They try to cut taxes at every step for the upper echelon of society. They would let big business destroy the earth if it profited the world financially. They have no fiscal vision and even worse, no conscience. That's why I'm proud that I'm not a conservative.

This is 2003, and conservatives have total control in both the senate and the house, six of nine supreme court justices are conservative and the president is also conservative. So yes, conservatism is very much alive in 2003, just as it in France, Spain, Denmark & Italy. They also elected conservative leaders recently.
