I beg to differ zan.. your talkin about fruits and crap.. but not all farming is ran by HUGE companies. How many people wear cotton? Yes Cotton.. sorry, but the majority of cotton is grown here in TX and in Calif. Hell I live right across from a cotton field and trust me.. Rewriting english and resetting the way we reference time are 2 completely different scenarios.

Time is hard to chart at all, tho since we've already defined the length of a second, it becomes cake from there. Its simple math.. We want to base a year on where we are in orbit of the sun.(I dont have that exact # offhand either.. anyone?) A metric time system would COMPLETELY overhaul our current system.. forget minutes.. they would have to be 10 or 100 seconds.. Prolley 100, maybe a 10 second usage tho? No point working out a system w/o the number we're shooting for, needless to say though, a metric time system could NOT meet the exact time for a complete orbit.. We would have that extra bit of time we save for,"leap years". I would say place it on the end of the year somehow.. would depend on that amount again.. In any case, it's very possible to do, and alot more logical. Granted, It will never happen:( Mainly due to peoples complacency with the current system. Yes, It works fine.. but its inefficient. I dont think clock companies would have a problem with this.. Accually, quite the opposite.. It would cost a bit to model new clocks, watches and time pieces, but the change would literally line their pockets with gold. The economy would take a hit that would take a long time to recover; And the stock market would go into chaos for a few months.. But all recoverable.



On The other hand, rewriting a language.. Theres 2 parts, 1 is vocabulary. Vocabulary is the spoken words, pronunciation, and meaning behind them. Caveman stuff.. First caveman to find a hard, red fruit and points at it and say apple.. just named it an apple, lol(Unless the other caveman clobbers him, and renames it a lexusbear.. Then its a lexusbear..) and it spreads.. This continues today, obviously dawgs. I decked some scrub in his grill just the other day. (lol)Written language is based on the pronunciation ussually, symbols for sounds or groups of sounds. A language's vocabulary is easily rewritten.. but highly redundant, and less likely to happen than the time change.

The other area being grammar is the syntax we use to phrase and position words.. making speech alot more effective.

"orange..." What about it?

"cold.." Which one?

"That one.." Instead of having to ask wtf someone is saying each time, we phrase it up..

"That orange cold" or with our grammar.. "That orange is cold"

Also possible, "That is a cold orange" "A cold orange, that is" "That orange, it's cold." ect, ect, ect. Most of you prolley stopped ready by now, all of this is, or SHOULD BE common sense. In anycase, you could also rewrite a languages grammar, which could in fact lead to the language being more effective(Effectiness of a language = amount of information transfered with the least amount of effort.. speaking ect) Our language does make sense. If you're reading this, you alone are proof. :)



ANYWAYS, Just figured I'd argue for time change, and that changing a language is completely possible, tho unlikely.. Cultures develop their languages over long periods of time, and ussually end up with a setup that suits them best.(Exception to ebonics.. heheh.. thats the result of people being f*cking idiots)



On a more possible, theme of time. One thing thats always bothered me, and I'll almost never comply with..(Exception to taxes ect.. grin) Our date is understood as Month/Day/Year.. Which seems HORRIBLY stupid to me at least.. Day/Month/Year is a hellovalot more logical, and is used widely outside the US.

If you're born on the extra day during a leap year, do you only have a birthday once every 4 years? Are you considered 10 at 40? :)

I have a friend who was born on the 29th of February..she celebrates a birthday each year, but sayes shes only a few years old since her birthday has only passed about 6-7 times since ( I can't remember, cuz I don't really know how old she really is hehe)

technically her age is based on the year she was born to present, not her actual birthday. Mainly since it is '# years old', not '# of times my actual brthday has come up since I was born' cool concept tho, would suck for age limited stuff like alcohol, and cigs, and voting, and the ever elusive insurance rate drop.
