Yea but the only people I have to play with know the game very well and it sucks for a person learning...

I haven't played in a while...but I signed up at the company chess tournament this week, so I'm about to find out how good I am against a bunch of engineers ;)

I could suggest a book for you :D Modern Chess Openings. It's a great book that describes the opening moves of a game and the advantages of it.
