Pretty much, yeah. And he's A LOT more hardass in j than he is in i, even aside from the new combat system raping you.
This can probably be attributed to my gangmate Gringo who, unlike pretty much every other high level, had the nuts to try the Dark Mage without taking a party worth 700 combined levels. He did it with 2 characters in their mid 50s and posted it on moroncentral's forums... which I'm sure shocked Dumb and Dumber (Izak and Shannon) since they thought their uber boss was impossible with 10 people.
The Lich is even more luck, because he's like the mage on steriods. He can cast death gaze on someone then do a 400 damage room drain in the same round... but the ruby-encrusted bracers were so overpowered. Stupid Izak.
