I used to say it every day in school, then I moved to England..they never had that stupid crap to tie up my learning time...I barely remember the entire thing, but does that make me unpatriotic? No..What makes a person unpatriotic is to be told to do this or that without a valid reason, or any reason, throughout their entire lives. After a while, the child will either get with the brainwashing, or rebel and start free-thinking..kinda like all those hippies of the 60's...

When they start thinking for themselves, they will realize how much of what the government tells them to do is rediculous, redundant or just plain FUCKING STUPID!!!

I mean, there are laws in almost every state against sodomy...in most states you can't get your dick sucked, or you cant lick your womans clit...it's unchristian..so sayes the christian pedophiles who create these rules..But, really, who is in their bedroom in the heat of passion saying, oh wait, we can't do that, it's against man's law...You know, that is exactly why all those pre-60's families, the leave-it-to-beaver types, were always so friggin uptight..They weren't letting their natural energy out, they were letting their fellow man tell them how to live, someone who wants to live one way should be allowed to live their own way, not the way of their peers.

There are completely stupid redundant laws in effect...I could type for days on the laws that have been passed that try to restrict and undermine every single human right.

Now, I'm not advocating anarchy...but the average human, if raised in a mildly ruled society, will more often than not, choose a path in life that will keep them on track with everyone else. For example, most people don't regard the seatbelt laws as laws..they see it as common sense..they wear them. Other people don't..those same people who don't only don't because it's a law. If it weren't a law, I know I would wear my seatbelt..just cuz its safer..but I'm out to prove a point..

How many times have any of you done something merely because you were told not to? Some of those times, you learned not to do it again, but others you learned it was ridiculous that you weren't allowed to do it. They tell you not to touch a hot stove..you learn not to touch a hot stove...they tell you not to jump on the bed..you jump on the bed, but you don't know why you can't..yes, ok, in the long run the bed may break..but, in the long run, it's gonna break anyway from you sleeping (or, god forbid, have sex) on that bed.

It's called critical thinking. When given a rule prohibiting you from something, think about it..why is the rule in effect? Is it for my safety? Someone elses? Or is it because someone wants to control my actions as an individual, or part of the masses?

Safety is a good reason for rules..control is not. More than half of the rules in effect in the United States are to control the population, to keep them from doing something the conservatives don't want their peers to do, because they don't think it 'Christian'

I say, if you think it through, and find that there is no real, logical, reason for such a rule, fuck them, it's your life. You want to smoke? Smoke..it just kills you faster, but it's your life...If you want to wear a seatbelt? Go ahead, if not, go ahead and don't..After all, it's your life when you topple that car..However, do consider the implecations for the people around you. Yes, you are an alcoholic, and I don't care..Drink till your hearts content..drink yourself into oblivion, it's your body..Just please, PLEASE, consider those of us that don't drink..be safe in your choices..we didn't choose to be drunk, so we don't wanna be involved in your angry rants, or your drunken driving..leave that to the sober people who choose it.

Thanks

Ok. I agree with every part of your post but this one. Ya see, I'm a non smoker (well, non-cigarette-smoker.. grin). I HATE IT when people smoke within 15 feet of me. Yes, they are smoking and just killing themselves faster, and yes it is their lives, but the smoke that they are killing themselves with just comes over to me. I can't stand the smell or the taste of cigarette smoke. It makes me gag. Now, let me get to the ironic part. You say someone can drink til their hearts content, it's their body. You also say, "we didn't choose to be drunk, so we don't wanna be involved in your angry rants, or your drunken driving." Ok. How about the cigarette smokers choose to smoke to themselves, and not involve me in their smoke? I am hippocritical, with the rest of the world. I smoke weed, I do a lot of things people don't like. That's why I don't get all pissy when people smoke cigarettes around me, I just wish they wouldn't.

Well, when i said that, I was not tlaking to just the drunkers...they were just the one group of people targetted...the same can be applied to smokers, of any kind. Yes, I don't like cigarette smokers..I don't like the smoke..and if it offends me, I either ask them to move, if they won't put it out, and if they won't move, I move..its a simple common-courtesy.

We have a lot to be thankful for in this country, us as a whole and educating children on the pledge is important so they can honor the million that have died to keep them free from outside influences. I think its a small price to pay as a thank you, we used to have to say it everyday and half the time I never did I just "lipped" it. I think its important that they understand what it means and having them say it hopefully kinda instills a sense of pride and passion for thier country. They can take the god thing out since god shouldnt be brought into schools since its an equal opportunity system. Having the beliefs of a nation I think are important but the god thing well that depends on the family and individual beliefs not the schools. Sayin the pledge is pretty much saying what this country stands for so I think it should be left in.

Perhaps it should, but ONLY if they describe their reasons for saying it, the meaning of the pledge, and everything behind it, to the children first. Unfortunately, children are generally too young to understand things like pride or patriotism, they know nothing of racism, hatred, oppression. Children only really know love and fear, fear that there won't be love is pretty much all they run on. When was the last time you herad a 5 yr old talking about patriotism, let alone pronounce it?

Even a 10 year old wouldn't care...as all of you have said, most of you don't know what the pledge stood for, you just went alone with the rest of the class..or lipsynced..in either case, you probably didn't know what it meant at the time. It's not until you grow older, and learn more of the ways of the world, or grow to an adult and get out there into the working world, that you learn what it's like to be a citizen of this country.

Hrm..

I don't say the pledge because I don't believe in it..the pledge is bullshit..yeah yeah it says god in it, fuck a god..I could care less.

I haven't said the pledge since maybe 5th grade, and when asked to do so I simply told em -- No.

I think people should do what they want to do, I think if it was up to the kids there would be no pledge, kids don't give a flying fuck about it, it's all these teachers and parents and school board people that make such a big deal over shit that would be better left alone.

Who gives a fuck if little Tommy wants to say the pledge? Is it HURTING you if he doesn't? Are you physically or emotionally scarred for life because little Tommy didn't want to say the pledge? Is it killing you...what, do you only have a year left to live because of it? Did you develop an uncurable strand of cancer over it? Did little Tommy not saying the pledge stress you out so bad you tried to commit suicide? Did it stress you out at all?

Calm down..shit.

The entire pledge is wrong. It's ridiculousness in the extreme. They try and make kids too tiny to have ANY idea what they're saying pledge their loyalty like a knight to royalty. To hell with that. Pledge alliance to a country run by corrupt politicians and big business sweatshop owner CEOs? No. I DON'T think so. I'd die before I'd pledge alliance again since I realized what it all meant.

Call me unpatriotic. I am. And I'm damn proud of it. How anyone can be patriotic with all the evil that goes on around here is beyond me. Is there a better alternative out there? I don't know. I've not lived in all the countries that might be better, I can't judge if they really are. But ignorance and/or a lack of something worthwhile aren't reason to pledge to a country with officials that would make laws based on the bible and a public that would not vote for someone because his arms don't move when he walks.

Tell me, what purpose other than brainwashing the feeble, stupid masses does this "pledge" serve?
