The best way to do it with as little hassel as possible is a router, linksys is good, but you have to know how to set it up first.

Just get a cable/dsl internet gateway/router, unless you have dial up of course.

They are cheap now and it takes the load off the computer that is having to run ICS.

That way you can route a certain port to go to a different port on the specified internal ip address. Like someone could connect on 2300 and connect to your telnet server on port 23 in reality.

Also gives you a very nice firewall.

Linksys has some good ones now, I think they have one with built in VPN server and one with VoIP(voice over IP). Great stuff.

Yep this is the way to go. Internet connection sharing is jerry rigged networking. Only problem with the router method is that every one I've seen needs you to turn off DHCP for autoconfiguration of the clinets to be able to forward port requests (to ensure that the destination computer never gets stuck with a different IP than is assigned in the router). Not much of a problem really, you just have to configure each computers internet connection manaully.

If you want to go with a software router solution, and have an old computer (486 +) lying around, check out clarkconnect i use it, and it rocks. http://www.clarkconnect.org It will install right over the internet :)

I highly agree with Panter X - WinXP Pro has been pretty bad ass (good networking features, yadda, yadda, and very stable!):thumbu:
