Oh so that's why when MSN messenger tried to make their service work with AIM too then suddenly the AIM people did something and it no longer worked? None of those services want other programs using their network. They make money off those nifty little ads. And I'd like to see where this information is supposedly posted, I seriously doubt the AIM development team needs help writing it's software for other platforms and Microsoft is even less likely to need help. And yes I'm sure the info is posted all over the place, I just have a hard time buying it's posted by the people who actually run the networks. I found the packet information to connect to AOL on the web, that doesn't mean AOL wants me or anybody else to have it.

i've been using trillian for a few months now without any problem of not being able to connect. there were only a few times that it wouldn't connect in the past when aol thought they could stop it from working.

AOL knows they can stop it, and they also know any half decent programmer with a packet sniffer can make their program connect to it again.
