Ok, ive been having problems with my Nvidia Geforce4 Ti 4200 video card from the start playing games, i soon figured out it was simply over heating when playing games, i now put a fan by it to keep it cool while playing games, but now it seems as though when playing and during regular things ie, internet exploring,games, msword, or running movies, the screener simply freezes and refreshes it self and does this for 2 mins straight, very annoying any ideas..

Ecs Athlon 1.5 Motherbrd

256 ram

Nvidia Geforce4 Ti 4200

60 gig hd

Win xp



I have also updated video drivers..?

Trying to stay away from the idea that it is a hardware issue on the card, have you tried stepping down a couple of versions of the drivers? Is your system overclocked?

There may have been heat damage from before when it was overheating. If it's still under warranty, just call them up a few times and complain it's a defect and they should send you a new one if they determine you didn't cause the defect yourself :-p

ok, the system is not overclocked and now the computer screen refeshes with the screen going black 2 or 3 times now and longer periods and then reboots the computer now, but fan on video card is still moving as well..

I'm inclinded to go along with Aragon. If you have another vid card you can test with you might have your answer. More than likely the card is damaged.

I assume all the problems are with this card only(last card was working fine)...If the card was overheating, that alone is enough for me to return it. I would...

Uninstall the drivers, let windows install their drivers(really old ones) and see if its still doing it. Make sure your connections between the two, card and monitor are good. If they aren't that could explain the weird screen(I have seen some weird stuff just by a bad cable/connection) and if its tugging at the card, if the card moves to much in the slot, it could reboot the computer.

ok ive taken everything out and reconnected everything and computer is running for 2 hrs now flashes which is very good considering it got to the point of 15 mins then blacking out, looks like nothings wrong so far...ill keep in touch, I want to say thanxs to those who did reply and mention that it might be lose parts and what,( seems that it was lose parts or connection some where )...again for the time being Thank you...:)

well i spoke to soon, it did slow the flashes down though,but still there. I now uninstalled the new drivers and left windows default drivers as of now the computer is running for over 8 hrs no flash...if that doesnt work ill try another video card and see what happens..

Windows drivers ran 8 hours with no flashing or it was flashing? I would also suggest taking it to a friends house and swappin cards and see what happens. If you card is toast...return it ;)
