Untryiampi reset [Archive] - ForumsHQ

Post by Demosthenes »

we're getting closer to the reset on untryiampi... i've got most of the egregious problems that i wanted to look at identified and, for the most part, fixed. now i'd like to know how people feel about it (yes, it's still me, actually giving a shit about people's opinions... who woulda thunk it?). couple options here on the poll, if you think there are better options feel free to reply about them. so you know, i have about a 4-page list of changes/fixes at this point, but it's mainly changes so a reset now would be plausible.

How long would an 'Option 3' take? Cuz if it'd take too long, I'd say just reset now and fix as you go..you'll have people who'll almost 'threaten' you 'If you mess up my char...!!' kind of like Ghetto and Marius last reset, who were both in need of a lot of change..but that also depends on how fun being an ass is to you and telling those 'type' of people to go to hell. (In a more exquisit and humorous way, cuz sysops gotta have fun SOMETIMES)

that's why i'm giving the options... :p at a guess, option 3 will take 2-3 months, quite a bit longer than i'd originally estimated. this is basically just to see whether people think it'll take too long (i'm guessing it is too long for most people) and, if so, what they'd like to see me do. probably the soonest i'd do a reset is the 3rd sunday from now (feb 13th), simply cause i don't think it'd be terribly cool to do a reset on super bowl sunday... otherwise i'd do 2 weeks from now, if it turns out that's what people want. however, 3 weeks will give plenty of time for everyone to vote and for me to give people notice on what we're doing, so it works out well regardless. there's not much chance i'll be done with everything i want to do 3 weeks from now, since most of the 4-page list i referred to consists of somewhat significant gameplay changes (everything from class play-style changes to new areas/quests)

btw, i have no problem with telling people to fuck off if their demands are unreasonable, but i do always listen before judging whether something is reasonable or not. however, this doesn't preclude my changing the play-style of your class underneath you if i have it planned (with options 1 and 4)... if i do so, i'd naturally be willing to change you to something else of the same power level with the same exp.

My first question is will it be to much of a hassel to fix and add on after reset or would it be easier to wait till everything is added and fixed. Reset now or a week from now what will the difference be? :wallbang: :bravo:

that's kinda the whole point of this poll... if i were to wait until i could sit back and say "ok, everything's where i want it, time to reset" that'd probably be about 2-3 months (as a conservative estimate). it might be even longer if i were to wait until i had everything to the point i consider perfect... if i ever reach that point period, which is another question entirely. :P but yeah, basically it's a question of waiting 2-3 months+, or waiting a few weeks until feb 13th and then resetting regardless of where i am editing-wise.

I voted 3, but I'd like to ammend that to say that if there are any major fixes do those first, if you're talking about 3 weeks from now anyway, maybe stretch it to 4 to get the most important to gameplay fixes in.

i'm confused... you're saying that i should wait until everything's fixed to reset it, but that i should do major changes first and then reset in 3-4 weeks? you voted to wait until everything was fixed, which i'd estimate would take a good 2-3 months if not more. by definition, that means that i'd be done with my major changes.

Sorry I wan't very clear. I don't know what is on your 4 page list of fixes, I'm assuming some are more important then others. What I'd like is for you to take the next 3 to 4+ weeks to fix what would be considered the biggest problems on that list, then reset. Basically, don't reset ASAP, take some time to fix the problems, not necessarily ALL of the problems, before you do a reset. Does that make more sense? Call it option 1 1/2 or 3 1/2, basically do some fixes then reset, not do all fixes before reset or none of the fixes before reset.

IMHO you should get the necessary changes/updates completed and then reset the game. In the mean time, promote the reset and any significant updates/fixes in the forums... Will make users anxious to see the final product.

That place has needed a reset since Miles left... It will bring needed life back to the board.
