i've recently aquired in part a former local bbs that was pretty big back in the day. everything was hooked up via modem and boca boxes. it was Worldgroup for dos v1.0 or maybe 1.1 .. i don't have the server with me at the moment.



so the problem at hand is: i want to get it on the internet ...

for the record, i fixed this problem last night. i went to worldgroup offline utilities and ran the utility to fix .dat files. i think its called bbsridx and says something like "re-establish file integrety if questionable".

did not work the first couple of times i tried it. so i had to take off the arguments to put the date on there. oh well :)

actually it looks like i cant import the user database. hm well i guess i can manually hex edit any chars i need to into a fresh dat. although it would probably take a little while.

my computer locked up (megamud) the other day. had to turn power off



the only backup i have is what happens at cleanup and it overwrites itself so my copy is bad



maybe i could try starting fresh (renaming the .vir or however..) and use nightmare to export my user database with my accounts ...

the bbs crashes of course.. it just happened out of the blue. my exp is hex edited ...

very good point about the modules. i better keep it in dos.



vircom no longer sells or even supports their major tcp/ip software. therefore is it against rules to talk about it a non-traditional method of registration light?

yes wg definatly had dos based packages.



what is an upgrade package? is it just a different version like "windows xp upgrade" and "windows xp full install" ? or is it something seperate i need to find?



i may just try to get the dos tcp/ip package to work. anyone have pointers on that? it ...
